Armband Tattoo Designs—Why are They Often Chosen as First Time Tattoos?

Sometimes the decision on which body part to get a tattoo is more difficult than the choosing of the tattoo itself! Obviously, most people prefer getting tattoos on traditional locations such as the upper arm, torso, or lower back (for women). But these days, many people are interested in getting tattoos displayed on other parts of their body. As such, armband tattoo designs are now entering the mainstream.

This type of tattoo is often chosen by individuals as a first choice. This means that many people choose their arm as a location for their very first tattoo. On one hand, it could be said that such tattoos are somewhat of a fashion statement, which puts them in high demand. Likewise, they are easy to hide with long sleeve shirts, and there therefore suitable for those who need to fit into a conservative environment, such as an office, school, or church.

There is another reason why an armband tattoo is often the first choice for many first-timers: it can be created as a masculine, feminine, or gender-neutral piece of art. The many, versatile options that they present gives those who are uncertain about the type of tattoo they want the opportunity to experiment a bit.

These tattoos are generally accepted by the entire body art culture. Everybody from bikers to sports icons and from exotic dancers to work at home moms accept armband tattoo designs. Indeed, it seems that they are acceptable for all professions and trades. The possibilities are endless!

Some of the most popular designs include tribal artwork, Celtic knots, flowers and vines, Hawaiian themes, snakes, dragons, ancient Aztec patterns, and even feathers! Armband artwork can be adapted into any style imaginable, so it’s very easy to come up with something unique. Many people prefer to modify existing designs to suit their own personal tastes.

Obviously, the upper arm is the most common spot on which people get an armband tattoo. Now, many first-timers are understandably worried about pain. There really is no pain felt on the outside of the upper arm. However, the inside of the upper arm can be rather sensitive to tattoo needles.

Some people assume that the sensitive and painful nature of this part of the arm is the reason why a lot of people don’t get completed tattoos. In actuality, that is not the truth at all. Since the shape of the arm changes as it is moved or rotated, only extremely talented tattoo artists can successfully finish an armband tattoo. After all, only professional artists can make the two ends of the band meet flawlessly, due to the way the arm fluctuates as it is moved.

Many people who are new to getting tattoos wind up being addicted to them and want to add on to their armband design. Some also want to add a wristband to go with it! with this option, there are also plenty of possibilities. The options are limited only by the imagination—there are literally thousands of styles, colors, and designs to choose from!
