Free Tattoo Art—Is an Online Search for Free Designs Worth Your TimeFree Tattoo Art—Is an Online Search for Free Designs Worth Your Time?

We are always searching for great deals on anything that we buy, and tattoo designs are no exception. Many people are on the internet searching for free tattoo art instead of paying a tattoo artist to design one personally for them. On the surface, this sounds like a great idea, but is it really? Why pay $50+ for a design when you can find one on the internet for free?

However, if you really spend some time thinking about it, you may come to the conclusion that searching for free designs isn’t the best idea. It might seem like a good idea at first, since you can show it off to your friends and be like, “Hey! Check out this free tattoo design I found! I’m going to get it!” Unfortunately, this is nothing worth showing off for obvious reasons. Firstly, your friends can find the very same free tattoo art themselves. Secondly, many other people out there probably have the exact same tattoo. Thirdly, you get what you pay for, so if you don’t pay for it, you can be sure that it will look cheap once it’s on your body.

If you don’t want to pay for your design, then the only ones you will have access to are the low quality ones. Sure, there are many websites with tons of images, and after hours of searching, you still might find a few decent designs. However, is all the searching really worth your time? For the most part, free tattoo art on the internet is cheap and generic, so your best bet would be to have a professional make one just for you.

A lot of people will complain that tattoo designs can be very expensive and that they can’t afford to hire a professional artist to customize a design for them. Some also might complain that they can’t find any artist in their area to make custom designs. If either or both of these factors are true for you, then your best option is to wait.  Save your money until you can afford a custom design.

So, what is the problem with free tattoo art?  Well, besides the fact that they aren’t made by professional tattoo artists, they are often thrown up in a tattoo image gallery just because the website owner wants more visitors and is competing with other tattoo art websites. They often put quantity before quality in hopes that visitors will spend more time at their site. A lot of times the line quality is poor and cheap looking. Some people make the design on their computer and don’t think about what it will look like as a tattoo on somebody’s skin. If you settle with a free design, you might end up regretting it for the rest of your life.

Is there any value at all in searching for free tattoo art? If anything else, you can gather some ideas by looking at free designs. You can search for some designs that you like and use them as inspiration. Print them out and take them to a professional artist and discuss some ideas for something more unique to match your personality.
