Is it harder to learn a musical instrument as you get older?

I was curious to find out how difficult it is to learn how to play a musical instrument as you get older.

It is supposed to be fact that your ability to learn how to play your own instrumental music does decrease as you progress through life and I would imagine if it was anything like the thought of going back to academic learning  now that it would be almost impossible for me to achieve. I really like instrumental music and the more I listen to it now the more I wish that I had an instrument that I had the ability to play in order  to re-create such wonderfully thought provoking and melodic sounds. Always having the attitude that it is too late to do this though I have never taken any serious steps to finding out whether or not it is actually beyond me.

However the more I read up on this subject the more encouragement I get as there appears to be all manor or visual and audio aids available on-line that make learning a new instrument so much easier and the quality of music teachers that provide lessons is as high as ever nowadays. This surely must depend on the country and area that you in though? This would seem to be the logical take on the matter but technology allows for lessons to be done over the internet so it would seem that anything is possible! Maybe it’s possible to make my own instrumental musicafter all!
